Joint replacement surgeries, whether elective or following a traumatic event, are performed on over a million people each year in the United States alone. Proper nutritional care for these patients is essential to promote efficient recovery, reduce the risk of re-hospitalization, and improve their return to normal activities of daily living. This lecture will enhance RDN knowledge of perioperative nutrition assessment and evidence-based interventions for older adults undergoing joint replacement surgery. But how often do these patients have access to appropriate nutritional information or even a RDN once they return to the community? This lecture will also empower RDNs to build collaborative relationships with members of the interprofessional rehabilitation team.
