This session guides participants through the research evidence and professional experiences of a diverse set of practitioners who are experts in the use of dietary supplements with athletes.

A pharmaceutical PhD researcher will explain the mechanisms of action of dietary supplements at the cellular level illustrated by the example of commonly used supplements and a deeper dive into omega-3 fatty acid supplements. A PharmD practitioner with expertise in nutrigenomics will take a deep and applied dive into precision nutrition. Finally, a sports dietitian with extensive experience working in professional sport will teach participants how to apply the scientific evidence to nuanced supplement management scenarios for athletes and teams using case-based discussions.

This session addresses the benefits and risks of dietary supplement use in performance settings and equip clinicians with technology-based tools and professional skills in decision-making, clinical care and communication.
