The Ubiquity of Phosphate Food Additives: Cause for Concern?

Your Price $24.00 - $54.00

This webinar was presented live on August 21. The CPE will expire on July 21, 2027.

The amount of phosphate food additives in the U.S. has increased in recent decades. This is because these additives serve a wide variety of functions in foods and their use is only loosely regulated due to their "Generally Recognized as Safe" status.

Over 50,000 foods contain at least one phosphate additive. The widespread presence of phosphate additives in our food supply is concerning for the nearly 36 million Americans with chronic kidney disease and for the general population.

A growing body of evidence demonstrates associations between typical (excessive) daily phosphorus intakes and increased risks for all cause and cardiovascular mortality; several diseases e.g., cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes; and markers for bone and kidney diseases in the general population. The FDA does not mandate that the amount of phosphorus be included on the Nutrition Facts label.

The aim of this webinar is to raise awareness of the possible adverse health effects of these additives among the general population.
