Dietitians from across the country and working in diverse practice settings will share stories and examples of ways that RDs can use their experience to advocate for nutrition security and equitable food systems. Participants will brainstorm together to connect the dots between local, state, and federal issues. You will leave with practical ideas to apply in your work and community setting.

Catherine ("Cat") Rudolph is a registered dietitian and graduate research assistant for the Nutrition and Aging Resource Center. In this role, she designs and conducts research to evaluate the center's programming efforts and promote the well-being of older adults. Cat is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences and a graduate minor in political science at Iowa State University. She has previously received a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Diet and Exercise from Iowa State University and completed a Dietetic Internship at Duke University Hospital. Cat's background experiences include community-based research and evaluation, farmers' market management, community food security initiatives, and oncology nutrition. In her volunteer time, she serves as the Grassroots Organizer for the Hunger and Environmental Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group of the Academy and State Policy Representative for the Iowa Academy.

Years of experience in community public health programs, food service management, and behavioral health fields. Dedicated to providing not only a healthy, sustainable menu; but also, the education and tools one needs to maintain healthful lifestyle changes. Upon completion of a dietetic internship at the Brigham & Women's Hospital (Boston) in 2022, Fernanda worked as a registered dietitian at the Food as Medicine Coalition Project Open Hand (POH - Bay Area, CA). There, she worked on the GusNIP USDA grant to increase seasonal, locally-sourced and culturally appropriate produce, and founded the non-profit's sustainability working group. In 2024, she started her Masters of Public Health in Food Systems, Nutrition and Health at the University of Washington (Seattle) to further expand her understanding of sustainable food systems. This upcoming Summer, she will complete her MPH practicum with the City of Seattle, advancing the environmental goals of the Seattle Food Action Plan. Upon completion of her masters in 2026, Fernanda hopes to promote planetary and population health through food-systems solutions, either working with policy, working for the city of Seattle or advancing research.

Kai started her second career in dietetics in 2023, and began working as a menu compliance dietitian in 2024 at BronxWorks, a non-profit in Bronx, NY supporting low-income and culturally diverse populations. The NYC Food Standards — city-created guidelines based on federal nutrition policies — and CACFP nutrition guidelines shape her daily practices. Kai is passionate about improving the access to nutritious foods and narrowing the gap between the nutrition guideline and cultural foodways.

Kaitlyn Coroso, MS, RDN, LDN

Kaitlyn is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with a Master of Science in Dietetics. She works full time as an inpatient clinical dietitian in the intensive care unit at her hospital. Over the past year she has had the opportunity to build a program that provides oncology patients with cooking demonstrations and connects them with their local farmers and gardeners. Additionally, Kaitlyn works part time as a research dietitian, with a specific focus on the intersection of mental health and nutrition. Kaitlyn feels honored to be the secretary of the HEN PPC. As a member of HEN, she feels empowered to share HEN's message, along with the power of public policy with the clinical field directly. A driving passion continues to be bridging the divide between community nutrition and clinical nutrition.

Nadine Braunstein has been involved with policy issues at the local, state, and national levels for over 10 years. She was a 2013-14 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellow, has served as the Chair of the Academy's Legislative and Public Policy Committee, and was the 2023-24 VP of Public Policy for the California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics . Braunstein is an Associate Professor and the Dietetic Internship Director at Sacramento State University.

Raina works as Durham County's Food Security Coordinator based at the Durham County, North Carolina Cooperative Extension. She is a Registered Dietitian with masters' degrees in both public health and food/agriculture policy. Raina's efforts in her current and previous roles focus on working alongside communities to create an equitable, nutritious and sustainable food system.
